Lent Feb 18th -April 2nd, 2026
As we step into the Lenten season, a period marked by reflection, sacrifice, and generosity, This year presents us with a remarkable opportunity to make a profound impact by extending our support to St. Joe's Women's Centre.
With this project, the students are honoring the memory of Sister Shelley Lawrence (RSCJ), a cherished member of the Ottawa Catholic School Board who served as Zone 9 Trustee and dedicated 25 years to nurturing students, staff, families, and broader communities as chaplaincy leader. We are doing this initiative in partnership with St. Anne’s Catholic School.
St. Joe's Women's Centre is a vital institution in our community, providing essential services to low-income and homeless women, as well as their children. Since its founding in May 1984, the Centre has been a beacon of hope, offering a supportive and safe environment where individuals can access social and educational programs aimed at promoting empowerment, autonomy, and dignity.
To support this worthy cause, we will be collecting donations of toiletries and healthy non-perishable school snacks.
St. Joe's Women's Centre is currently in need of toiletries such as deodorant, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, toilet paper, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.
Additionally, St. Joe's Women's Centre operates a School Snack Program, providing over 1000 snacks to children each year.
To assist with this initiative, we are seeking donations of healthy non-perishable snacks such as granola bars, juice boxes, and Welches. We kindly ask that all donations be unopened and unused to ensure their suitability for those in need.
Online donations will not be available as the students prefer to witness the tangible impact of their contributions through the collection of physical items.
Our goal as a school is to collect 250 items to support this program.
In an effort to streamline the donation process, donation bins/bags will be conveniently located in each of your children's homerooms.
Your support will make a difference in the lives of individuals and families served by St. Joe's Women's Centre. Together, we can embody the spirit of compassion and service that defines the Lenten season.
Thank you in advance for your participation and generosity. Let us approach this Lenten season with open hearts and a commitment to making a positive impact in our community.

The program runs from June 29 - July 31, 2026, at various OCSB locations, with classes available for students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8, and is free for Ontario residents.
