Indigenous Education pedagogy and practices can evolve over time. It’s important that cultural and sacred teachings be shared by Indigenous people using those traditions - starting locally.
Our updated slidedeck provides guidance on facilitating cultural teachings (which are outside of the Ontario curriculum expectations), for schools committing to ongoing First Nations partnerships.

Facilitating the Seven Teachings (updated)
A remarkable collaboration between Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen and Anishinaabe artist Henry Guimond of Sagkeeng First Nation. As Hansen travels on the Artemis II mission, he carries a personal mission patch designed by Guimond, incorporating the Seven Sacred Teachings, clan animals, Grandmother Moon, and Hansen’s astronaut wings. In a 2024 vlog, Hansen said of the image: “The patch reminds me to aspire to walk on this journey with respect, love, courage, humility, honesty, wisdom, and truth… They are just simple values that we can all resonate with and can use as a guiding star to help us live better lives on this planet.” - source
Check out the interview with CBC and David Courchene III, the Anishnaabe elder who oversaw Hansen's learning, including time on the land as part of a vision quest.
