Report Cards & Assessment

Monitoring your child's progress

Our team understands how eager families are to know how their child is doing in school. We believe open communication is essential to support each child's learning. Our team ensures each family is kept up to date with how each child is progressing academically, emotionally, socially and physically.

The two types of formal reporting used in conjunction with the Kindergarten curriculum are set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

The purpose of these reports is to foster your child’s learning and development, and to support your child in becoming an independent learner. Just like educators teaching Grade 1-12 students, kindergarten educators use assessment and evaluation practices and procedures that are designed to offer feedback that is clear, meaningful and timely.

Initial Observations of learning  (IOL)

The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of observations of your child’s learning since the start of the school year in relation to the overall expectations of The Kindergarten Program (2016).

This first formal report of the school year can help educators and families develop a positive relationship as partners who share the goal of helping children to be successful. It will give you information about appropriate next steps to support your child’s learning both at school and at home.

Shared in mid fall (November)

Communication of Learning reports (COL)

This report is organized according to the four parts or “frames” of the 2016 Kindergarten Program:

For each of the frames, educators will add personalized comments about your child that are clear and easy to understand. Educators will highlight key learning, growth in learning and next steps for each frame.

Shared in Winter (February) and late Spring (June)
