Using our Computers

To Log on to the desktop Username: swilguest Password: user (if it is not working check that there are no spaces in the password box)

Make sure the WiFi is off as it will slow down the machine

Do not save any files to the desktop or document folder as it will slow down the machine. (Files from these locations are deleted regularly)

Saving your work

Your files and work can be saved in 2 locations; the Data Drive and your Server Drive

Do Not Save work on the desktop or in documents folder. These locations slow the computer down and are purged weekly.

To save on the Data Drive: Open Data Drive using the finder window. Create a new folder and call it your name. Store your files within this folder. This folder is public access and only accessible from the machine you saved on, therefor files stored here are not guaranteed secure and can not be accessed from other computers.

To save on the Server Drive: Click on the Go menu at the top of the screen while in Finder menu. Select Connect to server from the drop down menu. Using your school ID (student number without ocdsb) and Password (DO NOT CLICK REMEMBER ME) you will log onto the network server by selecting your student ID in the menu that will appear. You can then securely store files that are accessible from all Mac Computers in our school this way. Network Address: afp://web.swil.ocdsb.ca

Submitting your assignments

Connect to Network using the same ID and Password for saving your work on the Account Drive. From the menu that appears click on staff.

Open the Staff Folder, find rsimoneau and open the folder, find public and open the folder. Files are to be dragged and dropped into the DROPBOX folder.

All files submitted must be named in this specific format yourlastname.yourfirstname.X.Y (where X.Y is the assignment number) files not meeting this format are automatically filtered out and deleted

Opening Computer Programs on a Mac

If the program you are looking for does not appear in the lower dock (which pops up and down) you can access all applications and programs by opening a finder window and clicking Applications in the left hand menu of the finder window. Alternatively you can select Go from the menu at the top of the screen while in Finder menu and then select applications.

Locating Files

All files can be found by clicking the finder icon in the pop up doc. This will open a new window that you can use to navigate to your stored files.
