Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) is a Ministry-mandated, formal evaluation and credit-granting process whereby students may have their prior learning evaluated against Ontario curriculum and recognized with high school credits. Prior learning includes the knowledge and skills that students have acquired, in both formal and informal ways, outside of secondary school (e.g., school attended outside of Ontario, non-inspected private schools within Ontario, work and life experience, etc.). The PLAR process involves two components: "equivalency" and "challenge".
PLAR eligibility, policies and procedures are dependent on the student's age as of August 31st of the current school year. To learn more, click the links below:
