Semester 1 and Semester 2. The SWIFT program is an Enhanced Technologies and Industry exploration program, modelled on successful experiential learning initiatives. For Grade 12 OCDSB students (25/semester), the program delivers career-focused learning opportunities and mentorship via local industry partners, fostering skills, industry certifications, and pathways to tech and/or business careers.

Semester 1 In partnership with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Carleton University, students in Grades 9-12 have the opportunity to engage with professors in solving problems of practice.
Semester 1. In partnership with the Aviation and Aerospace Industry, Program Services is pleased to offer experiential learning opportunities that will help students to engage with a industry “problem of practice”, and critically develop and design solutions to present to industry partners. In this program students will get to attend a one-day aerospace exploration day at the Aviation museum, with an additional day of career exploration and showcasing of their innovative and creative solution to the critical task.
Semesters 1 and 2 (April 24, 2026). The Ottawa Construction Association will be hosting ConstrucTOURs each Fall and Spring for 40 OCDSB students. This field trip will consist of a tour of Algonquin College and a tour of the Centre Block of Parliament Hill. This is an opportunity for students to learn more about skilled trade pathways and to hear from professionals actively working in the construction sector.
October 7, 2025. The Best Places to Work Expo is organized by the Ottawa Business Journal in partnership with the Ottawa Board of Trade and WCG Employment Ontario and sponsored by OCDSB SHSM program. The expo will feature dozens of exhibitors from industries, including technology, construction, manufacturing, professional services and the public sector.
November 5, 2025. Take Our Kids to Work day is a national program that has existed since 1994, providing students the opportunity to shadow a parent/guardian or family friend in their place of work for a day. On this day, Grade 9 students will have the opportunity to select from one of these options:
Experience a variety of job and career options with a parent/caregiver or family friend
Engage with resources and activities from The Students Commission of Canada
December 10-12, 2025. This event will give students the opportunity to meet professionals in exciting industries, see hands-on demonstrations, and explore a variety of trades and career opportunities. The goal of this learning experience is to raise awareness and enhance attitudes about careers in the skilled trades.
January to April 2026. SWAU can provide high school students with positive opportunities to experience a university learning environment. This will create the possibility for students to explore a previously disregarded postsecondary opportunity and determine if university programming aligns with their pathway goals.
April 23, 2026. The We Build a Dream Career Discovery Expo is an opportunity for ~450 female identifying students to engage in skilled trade pathway exploration. This event focuses on apprenticeship learning and will provide grade 9 and 10 students the opportunity to explore careers and meet employers, meet with women working in the industry, engage in hands-on activities, and more.

April 29, 2026. Algonquin College Connections is an opportunity for students to participate in a day of learning at Algonquin College, and experience one of the programs they offer. This event is a great opportunity for Students in grades 10 and 11 interested in exploring programs offered at Algonquin College.
June 2, 2026. Skilled trades learning and challenges for students in Grades 9-12.
