Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival

In previous years, our Grade 2 classes have attended the Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival. This year we have the opportunity to attend the festival virtually. Feel the Heartbeat Workshop

On Tuesday, June 16th at 11:00 am EST, students will be invited to make rattles using birch bark and other materials. Please ensure you have all of the supplies in preparation for the workshop. More information on the workshop including supplies can be found <HERE>

Cultural Showcase

The Cultural Showcase will take place virtually on Tuesday, June 9th at 11:00 am. It will include: Inuit Throat Singing, Metis Jigging, and Indigenous Pow Wow. In the past, this has been a highlight for many of the students when we have attended the SSIF.

Come together and celebrate Indigenous Music, Dance and more from the safety of your home with Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival's online musical programming with your live host Jahkota! We are excited to showcase Indigenous talent every Friday and Saturday until June 21st!

Virtual Marketplace

Shop online with the indigenous virtual marketplace (open for the full month through June 30th) and support up to 50 Indigenous small businesses!

Natural Art Project

In preparation for the live art session, please read more information <HERE> about pressing flowers and leaves to create artwork. Please note it can take up to 1 week to get the moisture out of items, especially flowers.

Colouring Contest

Spend some time at home with your family, exploring Indigenous arts and culture with our colouring contest, featuring art from First Nations, Metis and Inuit artists, and weekly prizes for all age groups. Winners will receive a Michaels Stores Gift Card to support our young, budding artists with whatever art supplies spark their interest

Inuit Games with Aalla

A Community Ice House

C3 Expedition


The Canada C3 expedition was a research platform for a pan-Canadian collection of examples of aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity, all within the same field season (June–October 2017). The Canadian Museum of Nature led the scientific program and had several projects as part of it. The samples taken continue to be studied and will provide employment, scientific training opportunities and depth to our knowledge base about the diversity of life in coastal regions of Canada.

Lichens: Corals of the Arctic Tundra


Learn about the diversity of lichens in Canada’s Arctic. Like coral, they are colourful, come in many shapes, are sensitive to the environment and live off the nutrients and minerals from the air and water around them.
