Math Activities
Throughout the school year, students have learned several math games to consolidate their math facts and understanding. Every week I will add a few games your child can teach you and play at home as well as math activities.
Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors
Listen <HERE> to the story then create a bracket to have a match with your own family.
That's a Possability
Listen <HERE> to the story before thinking of three events that are likely, unlikely, certain and impossible.
Creating Spinners
Create spinners to demonstrate probability of spinning various colours.
Making Equal Groups
Complete the ways of sharing items equally.
Representing Multiplication
Show the four ways to represent multiplication.
Multiplication Dice
Roll 2 dice, write down the numbers and multiply the numbers. Record the product in the circle.
Recipe Book
Many of you shared in our Google Meets about cooking and baking at home during Learn at Home. Please make a copy of the slide <HERE> to add your recipe:
Fraction Sort
Please print and complete this activity after watching the Fraction video. You need to cut our the fraction pieces and vocabulary and paste under the appropriate column.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Listen to the story.
The Crossing
Play this math probability game with a family member. Notice if some dice combinations are more likely than others. Next week, I will reveal a chart with the various combinations you could roll with both dice. Which number do you think is most likely? Less likely? Impossible?
Sharing with a Friend
What is something you could share with a friend or family member? How could you share half of it?

How much money could you have?
Brainstorm the possible coin combinations.
Go to the Scholastic Learn at Home site using the link above. Select "Grade 1 & 2 " then choose Week 2. Select Day 10: Math and Science- Measurement. Listen to Inch by Inch before reading How Long Is It?
Number Talk- Reveal
Watch Lleyton count the onions from our number talk last week.
How did he group the onions as he counted them? Could he have grouped them differently? Was your estimation close to the actual amount? What is Ms. Reichert going to do with all of these onions???
Measuring Penny
Watch this video about how Lisa uses different ways to measure her dog, Penny.
Number Talk
Look at the above photo Ms. Reichert took of the enormous bag of onions she bought recently. How many onions do you think she has? Use the benchmark (onion outside of the bag) to help you with your estimate.
Reveal video next week!
If the Shoe Fits
Before beginning this activity, you will need to make your own ruler. Use 10 coloured 2cm by 2cm squares of two different colours. These squares are the same size a side of a cube we use in our class. Alternate the two colours to make your own ruler. You will need to use this ruler for other activities next week so please keep in a safe place. Each space of colour counts as one unit.
Connect Four!
For this math game, you will need two dice and counters/ markers to cover the square. The first person to get 4 in a row, wins!
101 and Out!
You will need a pencil and a die to play this math game. In class, the person who has the closest birthday gets to take the first turn.
Students can review their understanding of our learning about money by playing this game via the website MathUp. Students require both internet and a device to play this game.
Logins to play this wizard math game aligned to the Ontario Math curriculum were emailed to parents this week. If your child already has an account, they may continue to use the pre-existing login and enter the class codes below:
-2A Class Code: D22DE8
-2B Class Code: A7A9B8
Students can review their understanding of time by playing this game vie the MathUp website.
Race to 100
To play this game, your child requires a die, a partner and 2 playing pieces.
