Depot assistants help keep the TIMARA Equipment depot clean and organized, they check gear out and check it back in. They make sure that kits that go out and kits that come back are fully functional and that all kit items are accounted for. They help ensure that gear is placed back in the correct location, and help wrap and organize cables. Depot assistants enter new gear into the checkout system, replace broken tags, identify broken gear, identify obsolete gear, and research and recommend potential replacements. Given that they have the time and the correct skill set, depot assistants may assist with minor equipment repairs.
Depot assistants must:
Be a TIMARA major or else have successfully completed one TIMARA course within a year of the assistantship start date.
Be responsible, punctual, consistent, and have excellent attention to detail.
Know how to correctly wrap cables - we can teach you.
Have strong communication skills and respond promptly to emails.
To be arranged with the studio engineer.
Ensure that kits are complete and functional before they are checked out and when they return.
Check gear out and check it back in; charge items that need to be charged
Reshelve items that have been returned in appropriate location
Help to enter items into the equipment inventory and to organize the equipment inventory
Assist with tagging and bagging new equipment for checkout
Wrap and organize cables
Help with labeling and organizing depot
Assist students with basic functions of the gear they are borrowing
Ensure that gear that is reserved for course purposes is not checked out to other students
Submit brief reports of tasks completed at the end of each work session
Attend a training session at the beginning of the academic year and/or semester in which you are hired.
Help update and maintain our online inventory
Over the course of the semester, under the guidance of the TIMARA Tech Director, each depot assistant will undertake one major organizational or depot documentation project. When other regular tasks have been completed during the weekly sessions, depot assistants will utilize their remaining time working on these tasks.
Please note that the TIMARA Department relies on depot assistants as a critical community resource. Please only apply for this position if you can commit to being punctual consistently, and to attending or finding substitutes (and alerting the studio engineer) for any missed shifts. Please arrange for substitutes at least one week in advance of the shift you plan to miss. If you are sick, please attempt to find a substitute, even if it is less than a week before your shift. If a studio assistant is consistently late or misses many shifts, their hours may be reassigned to a studio assistant substitute.
