Implementing the Science of Reading in our schools and classrooms
The links and information below are organized in this order, with information about how to access the modules and upload your certificate to Oakmont, followed by information about how we can all implement SOR with fidelity.
NOTES:
If you already submitted your certificate last year, you do NOT need to submit it again. The following instructions are for teachers new to Oakmont, or for teachers who did not complete the training last year.
There are no stipends from ODE for Science of Reading PD this year.
This is a video made by Amy Kenyon about how to find and download the completion certificate. She also covers how to log into the Learning Management System.
To submit your SOR certificate, please upload it on the Google Form below.
The Department of Education and Workforce created online learning modules housed in the Learning Management System for teachers in Ohio, on the SOR.
Teachers employed at Oakmont and hired after July 1st, 2025 will be able to complete the SOR Pathway Training for PD hours. It is best practice that every teacher complete the training before the end of thier first calendar year from hire date.
This includes ALL teachers, such as CTE Instructors, as well as English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Intervention teachers.
The modules below are available, but at Oakmont, our teachers are going to take either:
Pathway C (English and Intervention Specialists)
Pathway E (Everyone else)
Pathway F is available for administrators.

These are the instructions from ODEW about how to access the Learning Management System. If you are having trouble, please reach out to Emily Knight at eknight@oakmontedu.org .
School and building leaders have an enormous impact on what gets implemented with fidelity in classrooms. If you are a building leader and would like to learn more about what you can do to support literacy initiatives in your school, please check out the Padlet below from SST3 from their Literacy Improvement Pathway series.
You can still register for this series by following the links in the document below. They will present this series again in Spring 2025.

Although not every staff member is required to complete the modules released by the state throught the Learning Management System, all staff should be knowledgeable about ways to contribute to improved literacy for our students. All hands on deck!
