Some FFA members went to the soil judging contest in Waterford, Ohio. There were two different types of soil judging: Ag and Urban. Members doing Ag judged soil to see if it was good for farming or not. Members doing Urban judged soil to see if it was good for building a house and/or septic or not. The pits were around five feet deep each, and there were four pits. The third one was the only one that could hold a house. The pits were muddy, and one of them was so muddy and filled with water, that you could get stuck in it. There was water to the top of the toe of the boot. The FFA kids got pretty wet, and there were members from Oak Hill, Athens, Gallipolis, and Wheelersburg. When the event was over, the FFA members and Mr. Bennett went to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch. And Friday, September 26, 2025, the FFA members finally got their FFA jackets and ties/scarves.
Some of the FFA members went to the Forestry event Thursday September 18, to compete in tree volume, chainsaw parts and problems troubleshooting, and tree and problem guessing. They went to Wendy’s for lunch, and a certain member from ninth grade spent over $30 worth of food, while a bunch others bought the Baconater. Then, the FFA members went to the Barnyard Olympics at Logan High School to eat dinner, then compete in tug-of-war, tire toss, hay bale hurdles, and other activities. Oak Hill Middle High School got third place. South Galia got second place. Logan got first place. Everyone had a good time, and they took a whole group photo. On the way back to Oak Hill, the FFA members sang and screamed different songs. When we got back around 9pm, Mr. Bennett had everyone put the things we brought with us before everyone went home.
Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the FFA(Future Farmers of America) state president, Carter Boyd, visited Mr. Bennett’s Vo Ag classes to meet the new FFA members. Boyd said he wanted to visit at least 70 schools this year, and maybe go for 100. Oak Hill Middle/High School was his second school he has been to that week. In Mr. Bennett’s 4th period class, for Vo Ag 1, Boyd asked the class questions about school, FFA, sports, and things outside of school. In Mr. Bennett's advisory class, Boyd had the students play a game where the class split into two teams, and one person from each team had to try to find as many markers as they could, with their eyes closed, listening to their team mates’s voices. He also had them use cards and put them on their foreheads, and higher the card, like King, Queen, and Aces, the better you treat them, and he watched how people treated each other. Also, in Vo Ag 1, Mr. Bennett is teaching his freshman and sophomores about plant soils this week.
