Demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge and leadership skills on client safety through disseminating information to practicing clinicians and professionals within the emergency management community.
Framing the walls on top of a strong foundation is crucial for advancing the progress of a well-built house. In Goal 1, I established my advanced knowledge foundation and disseminated it to clients. As a next step, I disseminated this knowledge by sharing it with other clinicians and the interdisciplinary team in Goal 2. This is especially important for those serving vulnerable communities. It is essential to use professional reasoning and performance skills as a clinician in responsibly spreading knowledge.
To demonstrate my advanced competence in disseminating information to practicing clinicians and other professionals, I chose to highlight two presentations: one on a local OT scale and another on a broader national level. I engaged in the following: (1) created and shared an acute care Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Resource, (2) conducted two nationally based webinars for emergency managers to enhance client safety, and (3) carried out a systematic review concerning the effects of caregiver education on patient safety. Disseminating this knowledge is integral to my developmental journey. After all, what purpose does acquiring advanced competency serve if not to put it into practical use? By delivering presentations first to my OT department and subsequently to a national audience, I honed invaluable leadership skills. These include adeptly tailoring my content to suit the specific needs and understanding of my audience, obtaining increased confidence in adjusting communication styles during presentations, and crafting presentations with logical structure and engaging delivery methods. These efforts are aligned with the AOTA Standard for Continuing Competence in the areas of professional knowledge, professional reasoning, and performance skills.
