Fall Prevention Tips & Tricks Resource
When I was considering what would be most helpful for my client audience, fall prevention was first and foremost. Through my previous education in OT and everyday clinical experience, I am very familiar with the concept of fall prevention. To take this to the next level through my doctoral work, I decided to use my creative side to establish an attention grabbing falls prevention resource.
I had the opportunity to participate in the "50 Days of Making" class offered by the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. The class aimed to facilitate self-discovery and cultivate new habits by engaging in a daily activity for 50 consecutive days. My classmates chose projects such as animating, photography, and running, among others. Initially, this class was quite intimidating for me as I don't have an artsy background. However, I deliberately chose to step out of my comfort zone and enroll anyway.
I found immediate comfort and encouragement in the support provided by my professor during our initial class, which motivated me to embark on creating the "Fall Prevention Tips and Tricks" resource. I produced digital drawings related to all the fall statistics and prevention tips. In order to spread awareness, I made an Instagram account called "Not Down with Falls" where I posted 50 personal drawings.
To make this resource more audience friendly and upgrade it to a doctoral level, I added references and compiled all 50 posts with educational captions into a word document that can be distributed through printing or emailed. This resource is designed for those aging in place and has information targeted across the continuum of care, ranging from indoor to outdoor fall prevention.
