Only students who have either completed or are enrolled in Written Contemporary French while at NYU Paris may take a course in French at the University of Paris.

- The procedure includes an affiliation + registration to courses (after the reception of the meeting times)
- You can take only 1 course at a partner university
- Courses at partner universities count as electives
- To verify if a course can count for their major, please contact your advisor at your NYU Campus of origin
- Partner universities' courses count for GPA
- Pass/fail: You may request this option through your home school for NYU Paris courses.
- Should you have MOSES accomodation, please inform the NYU Paris Academics team as soon as possible

CALENDAR DIFFERENCES & ATTENDANCE

Please make sure to check your partner university's academic calendar and to respect partner universities' attendance policies (ask the instructor for any doubts)
Please make sure not to miss relevant information by activating your partner university email account and accessing the internal websites.
Please be sure to have your partner university student card and/or attestation letter with you at all times in order to ensure access to the university facilities.

Lectures in Economics at Paris 1 start the week of September 14th (recitations start the same or the following week according to the course). Courses at other Paris departments: information coming soon by email.

Courses at Paris Cité Anglophone Studies department start on the week of September 7th.

Paris 3 Sorbonne Nouvelle University courses start the week of September 21st.

PSL courses start TBC.

The IFM course starts on September 8th.

EXAMS

Exam after the end of the NYU Paris semester: some partner universities' departments accept that you don’t take the final exam, but you will have to work in advance on a certain number of assignments with the Professor. Some departments might instead require an online exam or an exam proctored in New York (or another NYU campus) after your departure. In very exceptional cases, you might have to stay in France longer, in which case the housing fees will be at your charge, but NYU Paris will work with partners to avoid this situation and to be informed as soon as possible in order to find solutions. Please always inform Maura Fenotti and your tutor of the precise date of the exam once it is known. Please also communicate with Maura Fenotti and your tutor regularly and provide them with your Professor's email address at the beginning of the semester.
Exam before the end of the NYU Paris semester: students are required to take the final exam.

In case of overlapping commitments between partner universities and your NYU Paris schedule, please inform Maura Fenotti, the tutor, and the instructor in advance.

Receiving credits

You must be enrolled for at least 12 credits at NYU Paris and take up to 18 credits, including your course at the “fac”. Students can take only one course at a partner university.

Table of correspondence between ECTS / NYU CREDITS

· 1 ECTS unit = 0.5 NYU credit

· 2 ECTS units = 1.0 NYU credit

· 3 ECTS units = 1.5 NYU credits

· 4 ECTS units = 2.0 NYU credits

· 5 ECTS units = 2.5 NYU credits

· 6 ECTS units = 3.0 NYU credits

· 7 ECTS units = 3.5 NYU credits

· 7.5 ECTS units = 4.0 NYU credits

· 8 ECTS units = 4.5 NYU credits

· 9 ECTS units = 5.0 NYU credits

· 10 ECTS units = 5.5 NYU credits

You can decide to maintain or drop the partner university course, but please keep a backup course at NYU Paris until you are sure, and you have met with the instructor to talk about your assignments :

Try the course once and write an email to Maura Fenotti right after to inform her.
No panic, there is a tolerance until the NYU Paris add/drop deadline for dropping the partner university course if you change your mind.

What to expect when taking a course at a French university ?

A different teaching style.
A more autonomous student body.
A great opportunity to gain first-hand experience of French university life and to meet French and other international students outside of NYU.
A different administrative language

Two types of classes :

CM or "cours magistral" is a large lecture class.
TD or "travaux dirigés" is a recitation in smaller groups.

Sometimes courses are composed of both CM and TD

Final grades at partner universities

The professors/partner university administration will send your grades to NYU Paris.
Grades might take several weeks to post. Thank you for your patience.
The credits/grades will be converted to the US grading system and will appear in Albert.
You will also receive the partner university transcript.

Weekly 30-minute tutorial at NYU Paris for students taking a course in French.

Monthly 1-hour tutorial at NYU Paris for students taking a course in English.

Partner University Tutorials are mandatory.

Tutorials are held at NYU Paris at a time mutually agreed upon by you and your tutor at the beginning of the semester.

The tutor ...

- is an NYU Paris professor who knows the French university education system.
- will help you understand what is expected of you in your French university course, by giving you pointers on methodological questions, helping you with vocabulary, etc.;
- will monitor your progress;
- Is your first go-to person concerning your partner university course? Your tutor is in regular contact with the NYU Paris Academics Team.

As a student taking a course with one of our partner universities, you are expected to :

Take care of administrative questions as needed (be sure to read your emails)! We are here to help you if you have questions.
Attend both your course at the partner university and your tutorial as you would any other course. Should you be absent for a medical reason or other legitimate reason, be sure to inform your partner university instructor and your tutor, and to catch up on the work. All absences due to illness should be justified with a medical certificate.
be on time both to your partner university course and your tutorial;
Let your tutor and Maura Fenotti know the date of your final exam, as well as the email and/or contact information for your partner university professor. Please do this as soon as possible after the start of the semester.
Make sure that the Professor agrees to give you the required number of assignments as requested by NYU.
confirm that you have access to any online materials related to the course;
Inform Maura Fenotti and your NYU Paris tutor of any difficulties you encounter related to course content, assignments, or exams. Remember, it is your responsibility to make sure you have completed the required amount of work for your partner university course; failure to follow through on any of these questions may have an impact on your final grade.
