The NYU Music Theory and Aural Skills Anthologies were created to provide a broad range of musical examples for study in the undergraduate theory sequence at NYU Steinhardt. The anthologies focus exclusively on music by underrepresented composers and repertoire outside of the classical European canon, including popular music, jazz, musical theater, film, video game music, and global musics. The anthologies are continuously updated to include current music and repertoire inspired by our students. The anthologies pair with our undergraduate theory and aural skills course texts. For more information about the Music Theory & History Curriculum Initiative at NYU Steinhardt, please visit our curriculum site here.
This project is the result of a collaborative effort by NYU faculty, staff, and students, led by Sarah Louden, in collaboration with Adem Birson, Kevin Laskey, Barbie Matthews, Jason Brauer, CJ Tomasewski, Sonia Wang, and many others who contributed examples, typeset notation, and provided invaluable feedback.
