The Ed Theatre TPA is a required portfolio examination for all certification students. The exam follows the 11 components from the Learning to Teach Framework.
The Teacher Performance Assessment for Ed Theatre has 11 components:
1. Manage Classroom Procedures
2. Equitable Management Strategies
3. Relationships w/ Students and Families
4. Design Relevant Lessons
5. Engage Students in Learning
6. Language and Content for All Learners
7. Rigorous Academic Talk
8. Assessment to Monitor Student Progress
9. Differentiate Instruction
10. Reflect on Teaching
11. Grow and Develop Professionally
The components are color-coded to demonstrate which are combined (1&2; 3/4/8/9; 5/6/7)
In light of this, there are 5 submissions required
Components 1&2 and 5/6/7 require students to record and analyze clips of their practical teaching. As such, this work is embedded in the Student Teaching Seminar for the Elementary Drama Classroom course offered each fall. Though 3/4/8/9 do not require videos of teaching, they are also embedded in the Student Teaching Seminar for the Elementary Drama Classroom course.
Dual Cert students are required to complete at least 3 components in each subject area - so there may be some overlap, which is fine.
Component 10 is completed in the Student Teaching Seminar for the Secondary Drama Classroom course offered in the spring - with the Case Narrative assignment. Component 11 is completed in the Student Teaching Seminar for the Elementary Drama Classroom course offered in the fall - the final self-assessment for the course must address the look fors for component 11.
Submission protocol will be reviewed with students when they enter the program and at several dedicated information sessions throughout your time in the program.
