If you receive Steinhardt scholarships and will be enrolling in less than 12 credits in your final semester or year, you may be eligible to maintain and pro-rate your eligible scholarship(s).
In order to have your scholarship prorated, you must contact Yvette Brown in Steinhardt Graduate Admissions directly to make the request. Please note that the prorate policy only applies to students in their final 1-2 semesters! If you have more than 2 semesters remaining, this does not apply to you and you must be enrolled in required 12 credits to receive your scholarship.
If your scholarship requires that you be full-time and you plan to take less than 12 credits in the fall semester, here's what you should do:
Make sure you are registered for the number of credits you intend to take.
Check to make sure you have already received your financial aid notice from the Office of Financial Aid. Do not move on to step 3 until this is done!
Email Yvette Brown (yvette.brown@nyu.edu) -- see below for a template email.
If you are a US citizen or permanent resident, make sure your anticipated credits in the Financial Aid section of Albert is correct.
Failure to complete this step may cause an over disbursement of your loans. If you are awarded too much loan money the computer will eventually catch the mistake and ask you to pay back the difference immediately.
MCC will not be held liable for any loans returned to the lender as a result of an enrollment mismatch; students are fully responsible for investigating the terms, conditions and deadlines related to their loans.
Submit a full-time equivalency form if you are taking less than 4.5 credits and want to defer and/or student loans.
If you are hoping to get your loans disbursed as soon as possible, then you should complete all of these steps by early August. This will give the system time to readjust so that your loan disbursement is correct when the monies come in to NYU.
PLEASE NOTE: If you make changes to the total number of credits after sending your email to Financial Aid OR Yvette Brown, you will need to send a follow-up email with that adjustment. Otherwise, your scholarship will go away. It's a good idea to be sure you know how many credits you are taking both fall and spring before sending this email.
