The Impact of Climate Change on Marine Ecosystems and Insights about Being a Marine Ecologist in Singapore
Extreme and unpredictable weather conditions, more frequent floods and drought, rapid ice melt and rising sea levels. We know that these are some of the consequences of climate change, but how will these climatic events affect our lives and the marine environment of Singapore? To answer those questions, Pavarne Shantti will introduce the community of tropical marine scientists in Singapore. We will gear up and visit the seawall and intertidal zone. We will also dive under the sea of Singapore to meet some of the local flora and fauna and to uncover some of our hidden treasures. Pavarne will also introduce the concept of Nature-based Climate Solutions and share their experience of using seagrasses as a model organism to protect ecosystems and mitigate ocean acidification.
