Grading

Tests/quizzes

All tests and quizzes will be announced and cover material being taught/practiced in class. Students will be expected to know math vocabulary as well as be able to solve problems while showing the work.

Projects

Projects will be given at least once, but possibly twice, per marking period. A rubric will always accompany the project. This project will be gone over in detail in class and examples of finished projects are shown. I also put a copy of the rubric, directions, and other necessary papers in their Google Classroom.

Moby Max

A Moby Max assessment will be taken early in September to assess students' skills proficiency. Students will be expected to do 20 minutes EVERY week of math lessons in Moby Max. The week begins on Saturday and ends the following Friday. at midnight. Moby Max will count as part of their homework section of their grade. The 20 minutes can be done all at once, or broken down into any combination of time. Students will be shown in class how to navigate Moby Max, check their weekly time and their progress. Detailed directions for using Moby Max will also be posted in their Google Classroom. Most lessons there are videos posted to show students how to complete each skill. It is not a fast video but it will take them through the problems step-by-step.

Homework/IXL

Homework is given as it comes up. To receive full credit, homework must be on time and complete. If 10 problems are assigned, then 10 problems should be completed. Plus, students need to follow the directions that are given. At times, the question actually has two or more parts. If students only complete one part, that is only 50% or less of the assignment. Homework is spot checked and gone over in class together. On occasion, homework might be collected and graded. Many nights' homework may consist of working on their weekly Moby Max and/or IXL skills. IXL skills will be assigned weekly as the topics are taught. Students can expect 3 or 4 skills per week. To be considered proficient and count as completed they must achieve at least an 80% on EACH skill assigned. These weekly skills are due no later than midnight on Fridays (same as Moby Max). Any type of HW given will relate to something we have been doing in class. Therefore, if they are struggling, their notebook is the place to go!

A student's overall math average is calculated this way:

  • Tests/Quizzes - 60%

  • Projects - 30%

  • Homework/classwork - 10%

Community/Parent Portal

Students will create their own account in portal in order to see their grades and other information that is posted. It is important that you also have access to parent portal. Not only are your child's grades and report cards in here, teachers may put additional information about an assignment in there for you to see. Please see the Community Portal link on the TEAM TAB for Pathfinders. I typically will update grades once a week.
