Robotics is a 3 - 4 year course of study that focuses on the engineering design process and critical thinking. Teamwork and problem-solving are reinforced through hands-on building and programming of robots. There are many opportunities to take leadership roles and compete in robotics competitions as a school team. The program prepares students for college & career readiness skills for robotics and automated manufacturing applications. STEM Robotics 1 is the course focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math concepts which includes engineering and robotics technologies as influenced by manufacturing and society applications. Instructional practices incorporate diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contribution to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. STEM Robotics 2 is designed for student who have successfully completed STEM Robotics 1. Areas of emphasis include more complex engineering and robotics design and programming essentials. Programming of software and hardware and, assimilating software & hardware designs and builds for solving simple robotic tasks. Critical thinking/analyzing and problem solving are an integral part of this course. Students are encouraged to be involved in school competitions and robotics clubs/organizations. STEM Robotics 3 is designed for students to advance to more complex issues revolving around robotics and automated manufacturing applications. Successful completion of Robotics 1 & 2 are mandatory for inclusion in this course. The emphasis is on continued advanced designing & programming by assimilating software & hardware applications for more complex robotics tasks. Developing skills in technical drawing and power conversion as well as the use of power tools are an essential part of this course. Continued participation in robotics clubs and/or competitions is also strongly encouraged. Senior Year (Robotics 4) is the Robotics Advanced Study component and culmination of the first 3 years of study. Applications of design builds and advanced programming & problem solving is an essential part of this course. Teamwork and self-discipline is imperative and a leadership role is strongly encouraged at this phase. A senior project and involvement in district-wide competitions is an important component of this course.
