The Employee Onboarding and Development Department (EOD) is centered on the idea that as a larger collective, we can all "be greater together." But we are more than just a great idea. We are a collaborative team organizing opportunities for new teachers and new clerical support professionals to become greater.
While we are serious about education, we are passionate about making teaching and learning fun!
We Believe Belonging is a Key to Success!
A sense of belonging is vital to early-career success. This is the definition that we embrace in EOD:
“Belonging is the feeling that we’re part of a larger group that values, respects, and cares for us, and to which we feel like we have something to contribute.”
-Geoffrey Cohen, Belonging: The Science of Creating Connection and Bridging Divides
“The team made me feel like I belonged, especially with the phases of a new teacher, to know I wasn’t alone feeling this way.”
“I didn’t feel embarrassed to ask questions. It was nice to know there are others out there going through a similar thing as me.”
“I feel like all the activities I attended always had a big take-away I was able to use. I felt like I wasn’t alone.”
Five Pillars of Belonging
We strive to incorporate these five pillars of belonging within everything we do. Whether it's professional learning, classroom/position support, or mentorship, we want new teachers and new clerical support professionals to feel:
Welcomed
Known
Included
Supported
Connected
“These pillars are actionable and have a direct impact on feelings of belonging. When any single pillar is activated, feelings of belonging double. When all five are activated, belonging triples.”
- The Belonging Blueprint
How Do We Do It?
You might be wondering how we, the fifth-largest school district in the nation, can manage such a feat!
It's easy...and complicated😄. First, we prioritize the needs of new teachers and new clerical support professionals. Next, we harness resources from around the District. Finally, make magic happen! (And by magic, we mean curated support!)
