Research interest: It is important to understand that today, water contamination is one of the most urgent environmental problems. In particular, microplastics, which are produced by anthropogenic activities, and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), which produce toxic emissions, can be considered major hazardous contributors to water pollution. In particular, I am interested in risk assessment analysis (RSA), life-cycle assessment (LCA), and stochastic modeling.

Research interest: My primary research interest lies in the field of catalytic nitrate reduction, an area of study with significant implications for environmental remediation and sustainable development. Nitrate contamination in water sources poses a critical threat to both human health and ecosystem viability. As such, my research endeavors aim to explore and develop efficient catalytic systems capable of mitigating nitrate pollution through selective reduction processes.

Research interest: Still defining my research interest. Right now working as intern for project “Life Cycle Assessment of Waste Water Treatment”

Akzhol Seitkhaliyev

Sophomore student in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Nazarbayev University

E-mail: akzhol.seitkhaliyev@nu.edu.kz

Research interest: Addressing water and wastewater contamination is essential to safeguarding ecosystems, public health, and the overall well-being of communities. I am interested in the development of novel adsorbents and catalysts to treat trace amounts of organic and radioactive contaminants in water and wastewater.

Inzhumarzhan Shakhmaral

Sophomore student in Chemical and Materials Engineering, Nazarbayev University

E-mail: inzhumarzhan.shakhmaral@nu.edu.kz

Research interest: Keeping water sources clean and optimizing water treatment plants is essential for preserving biodiversity, protecting ecosystems, and ensuring the delivery of safe water to communities. Therefore, I am interested in two main research areas: risk assessment methodologies for water bodies, aiming to identify and mitigate potential threats such as contamination; and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of water treatment plants, focusing on improving environmental sustainability throughout the water treatment process.
