Research Interest: The increase in carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere by combustion of fossil-fuels led to the Global environmental problems. In fact, Kazakhstan will not be an exception among those countries which strictly monitor the release of CO2 to the atmosphere in the nearest future. The major efforts have been directed towards adsorption of CO2 by using various Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and Zeolite based Catalysts. It is aimed to develop those methods considering the potentials and limitations for the reduction of CO2 level.

Research Interest: Carbon sequestration is the process of capturing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide. In this process, CO2 is injected into geological formations for long-term storage. Current studies are focused on finding the changes in geological media after the CO2 injection process. Our team is conducting a detailed assessment of CO2-brine-rock interaction in geological formations using lab experiments and computational modeling.

Research Interest: Rapid industrialization and urbanization in the modern world have resulted in a sizable discharge of contaminants into the ecosystem. Meanwhile, developing countries, including Kazakhstan, haven’t fully developed and implemented ecological regulations. One of the reasons would be a lack of environmental evaluations and assessments at the current time. Currently, I'm working on a risk assessment of heavy metals in the Esil River basin (which covers Akmola, North Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay regions, and the capital city Nur-Sultan). From this work, I found a strong interest in data analysis and programming languages such as Matlab, because they help to effectively discover useful information.

Research Interest: Without any doubt, it can be said that plastic is everywhere. Plastic contamination is becoming a major problem and there is a wide knowledge gap about it. One of the main sources of plastic contamination in the water is considered to be wastewater treatment plants. They pose a great risk to the local aquabiota, while being able to transport long distances. Thus, in my research I am studying the microplastic removal efficiency of the WWTPs. It is important to understand the extent of the problem to define it and work on the solution methods.

Research Interest: Determination of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in air

Within the framework of developing a series of fast, cost-effective, reliable, and ecological analytical methods for determining various organic and inorganic pollutants in the air, my work is devoted to optimizing the determination of PAHs contents. My greatest contribution is the optimization of the method of air sample extraction and concentration, which improved the accuracy of GC/MS determination of low molecular mass PAHs.
