Immigration:
In January of 2025, Congress passed legislation to ensure that those in the US illegally/undocumented and having been charged with or accused of nonviolent crimes are required under federal law to be detained. This legislation doesn’t tackle the challenges that have faced the nation since the last meaningful legislation in the 1980s. The immigration issue is complex and while legislation has been proposed, none has passed Congress; consequently, executive orders have been used to tackle the issue. The following have been discussed when developing legislation: border security, pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, change in the visa (allows person to stay in country) system to allow more or prioritize H-1B visas, and/or allow more refugees and asylum seekers. Create an immigration policy and discuss your reasoning in a 1 ½ -2 page paper describing your position.
