Applying to College

Students should apply to college the fall of their senior year. One reason is because colleges do not give any scholarships until students have applied and been accepted to the college. You can receive some scholarships just by applying to the college! Many colleges also have scholarship deadlines to apply.

1. Fill out college application. Most applications are found on the college website.

2. Most colleges require an entrance exam like the ACT or Accuplacer.

3. Have your transcripts sent to the college.

4. Some colleges require an admission fee. Fee waivers are available for students on free or reduced lunch.

UNL True Red

The University of Nebraska Lincoln is starting a new initiative called True Red, which is designed to reward students who apply and are admitted to UNL early this fall. It’s their way of rewarding those students for showing dedication to their studies, their university, and their future.

Students who are admitted by November 2 will be enrolled in the True Red program and will get to enjoy:

  • Expedited scholarship decisions.

  • Early access to the housing contract and online room reservation.*

  • Early access to sign up for the New Student Enrollment orientation.*

  • Membership in the True Red Giveaway Club, with giveaways such as University Bookstore gift cards, Husker apparel, electronics, and more.

*To have early access the Housing Room Selector and New Student Enrollment registration, the student must first pay the $250 enrollment deposit.
