Carpentry

This course is two class periods for an entire year. Students will learn the basic tenets of working on a construction site. The topics will include: safety on construction sites, construction math, hand tools, power tools, construction drawings, communication skills, employability skills, and material handling. In addition, students will experience hands on the fundamentals of the carpentry trade. These fundamentals include: acquiring skills in building floor systems, building wall systems, constructing ceiling joist and roof framing, and designing and constructing basic stair layouts.

This course offers students who are interested in becoming educators an introduction to teaching at all grade levels. The course is a combination of classroom instruction about curriculum and instruction and field experiences. Students are expected to complete a minimum of 30 hours of field experience at a school in Northmont.
Maintenance

This course offers students who are interested in maintenance and groundskeeping an opportunity to gain hands-on experience. Students will work with Northmont maintenance staff to learn skills like basic electrical, grounds maintenance, basic HVAC, and other skills as needed. Students are expected to complete a minimum of 65 hours of field experience at a school in Northmont.

Students will work with the Northmont IT department to learn in a work based learning environment strategies for troubleshooting hardware and software issues. Pre Apprenticeship in Law Enforcement

Students will learn about topics including Constitutional rights, the legal system, crime scene investigation, traffic laws and suspect interviews. The course will be supported with guest speakers from local law enforcement agencies and Sinclair Community College.
Introduction to Welding

Students will learn safety and the basics of gas metal arc welding using a curriculum from the Hobart School of Welding in Troy, OH. Students can choose to perform an AWS certification test at an additional cost to them, to earn the American Welding Society GMAW 12 point credential upon passing a bend test graded at Hobart.
