Welcome to your very first year of art at North Lake! Kindergarten is where young artists begin an exciting creative journey filled with imagination, discovery, and hands-on exploration.
In Kindergarten Art, every child is an artist. Our art studio is a place where students are encouraged to wonder, create, experiment, and express themselves while learning that there are many ways to solve a problem and share an idea.
Throughout the year, students will explore the Elements of Art, lline, shape, color, texture, form, value, and space. We will do this through engaging projects designed just for young learners. They will paint, draw, sculpt, collage, print, and build while strengthening fine motor skills, learning to use art materials safely, and developing confidence in their own creative choices.
Each lesson is thoughtfully aligned with the Wisconsin Visual Arts Standards and guided by Essential Questions that encourage students to think, observe, and make meaningful connections. Through stories, famous artists, nature, and the world around them, students will discover that art is everywhere.
Our Kindergarten artists will learn to:
Explore with curiosity and confidence.
Practice using a variety of art materials and tools.
Build creativity through play and experimentation.
Share ideas and celebrate the unique work of others.
Learn that mistakes are part of the creative process.
Take pride in creating artwork that is uniquely their own.
My goal is to create a classroom where every child feels safe to imagine, excited to create, and proud to call themselves an artist. Together, we'll laugh, explore, get a little messy, and make amazing works of art while building creative skills that will last a lifetime.
Every masterpiece begins with a single line... and this is where the journey starts.
Students will discover that artists are people who explore, imagine, create, and share ideas.
Students will explore how different tools and materials help them make lines, shapes, colors, textures, and forms.
Students will practice observing the world around them and using what they see in their artwork.
Students will learn that ideas can come from their imagination, feelings, experiences, nature, stories, and the world around them.
Students will begin understanding that the Elements of Art are tools artists use to communicate.
Students will learn that artists care for their classmates, artwork, tools, and creative space.
Students will develop confidence by experimenting, making mistakes, and trying again.
Students will learn that every artist's work is unique and valuable.
