Third Grade is an exciting year as students begin to think beyond simply making art. We begin to think like artists, designers, and creative problem solvers. This year, our artists will take greater ownership of their ideas, experiment with new techniques, and learn how art can communicate powerful stories, emotions, and messages.
In our art sudio, creativity and curiosity go hand in hand. Students will continue exploring drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, fiber arts, mixed media, and introductory design concepts while developing stronger craftsmanship and confidence. They'll learn that every project starts with an idea, grows through planning and experimentation, and becomes stronger through reflection and revision.
Every unit is aligned with the Wisconsin Visual Arts Standards and built around an Essential Question that encourages students to make connections between art, history, science, culture, and the world around them. As students explore the work of artists from diverse backgrounds, they'll discover how creativity has the power to inspire change, celebrate traditions, and solve real-world problems.
Throughout the year, Third Grade artists will:
Strengthen their understanding of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.
Develop artistic techniques with a variety of materials and processes.
Learn to plan, revise, and improve their artwork through thoughtful decision-making.
Explore how artists use creativity to communicate ideas and tell stories.
Practice giving and receiving positive, constructive feedback.
Build perseverance, confidence, and pride in their artistic growth.
Our art studio is a place where imagination is encouraged, challenges are embraced, and every student is empowered to take creative risks. Students will learn that there isn't always one "right" answer in art, often the most exciting discoveries happen when we try something unexpected.
This year, our artists will continue building the skills that prepare them not only to create beautiful artwork but also to become innovative thinkers, confident problem solvers, and lifelong creators. Together, we'll discover that creativity is one of the most powerful tools we can use to understand ourselves and shape the world around us.
