If your resume gets you in the door, the interview is your chance to close the deal. This is where you bring your qualifications to life, demonstrate your personality, and show the employer why you are the best fit for the role. It’s a two-way conversation to see if you and the company are a good match. Your conversations at the career fair are like mini-interviews!
Research the company before you go. Know what they do, what their mission is, and have a reason for why you want to talk to them.
Be prepared to answer standards like, "Tell me about yourself," "What is your greatest strength?" and "Why are you interested in this role?"
Make sure you understand the question before you answer. It's perfectly okay to take a brief pause to gather your thoughts.
When asked behavioral questions (e.g., "Tell me about a time you worked in a team..."), answer using the STAR method: Situation (context), Task (what you had to do), Action (what you did), Result (the positive outcome).
Always have 2-3 thoughtful questions to ask the employer, such as "What does a typical day look like in this role?" or "What are the biggest challenges someone new in this industry faces?"
