Halloween is one of the world’s favorite holidays. It sweeps the nation with joy, excitement, and of course, a few scares. Along with the joy, Halloween also brings a perplexing question to the Trick or Treater's of our neighborhoods. When are you too old to Trick or Treat? What seems like a simple question is so relative that it becomes difficult to answer. You see, you might look at a Highschooler and think, “What is that person doing? They aged out of trick or treating years ago.” But your friend might thing nothing of it. Despite this, I think we can all agree it is a bit odd seeing a fully grown person Trick or Treating alone. But then again, when is someone an adult? According to the law, 18 years old. So does this mean that no one would bat an eye at a 17 year old dressed in costume walking along the streets, and knocking on doors for candy. I don’t think that is in anyway true. So, what age i;s it then? According to https://www.today.com/parents/how-old-too-old-trick-or-treat-t164758, it said, “Officials in Chesapeake, Virginia, have decided that age 14 should be the cutoff, while the city of Bathurst in New Brunswick, Canada, passed a law to prohibit kids 16 and older from ringing doorbells.” In my personal opinion, the start of highschool should be the end of trick or treating for kids. Of corse, is a 17 year old going Trick or Treating really hurting anyone? Also, according to https://www.today.com/parents/how-old-too-old-trick-or-treat-t164758, it said, “Older kids with developmental disabilities may not have outgrown trick-or-treating either,” This proves that there may not be a set age to stop trick or treating. Maybe it’s different for everyone. Although social norms push us to drop out of Trick or Treating sooner rather than later, it frankly doesn’t matter when you stop.
