In the United States, as of October 2024, we are in a major political cycle. Our president is stepping down as a candidate and is inviting his vice president Kamala Harris. This is the first time in US history a president this late into their run had done so. Soon after Biden had resigned, many other candidates dropped out of the race, leaving Donald Trump, and the Republican party, and Kamala Harris, and the Democratic party as the main runners, but as the politics consumed the minds of many, natural disaster have been striking the southern United States.Â
From September 24-29, Hurricane Helene destroyed the east coast. Leaving 214, confirmed fatalities, and 285 missing. The storm affected most of the eastern United States, and greatly affected cities surrounding the Gulf of Mexico. However, these people were given little to no time to recover. The states are now threatened by a new hurricane. Hurricane Milton is already beginning to hit south Florida, and to picture the threat of this hurricane, Hurricane Helene was only a category 4 hurricane, reaching speeds of 121 mph, Hurricane Milton is a category 5, ready to reach 150+mph. As of 12:00 AM October 10, 10 casualties have been confirmed, and 100s of acres of property were destroyed.
