Reluctant reader

Watching a movie or being on social media can give kids the wrong information. Reading books is a great way to find accurate information. Many kids think that watching a movie is so much better than reading the book. This is because there’s actors acting out the story for you instead of having to read the words and use your imagination. But a lot of the times the movie doesn't match up with what the author wrote.
I think it’s important that kids should start reading because it helps improve their knowledge. Kids knowledge has decreased and so has their vocabulary. It might seem like a waste of time going to the library, but it's not. You might say, “Don’t you need a library card?” Yes, you do. But don’t worry, it's free! You just need to talk to the librarian and fill out an application and boom, you have a library card.
Another reason why it's important to read is because ever since covid, many kids fell behind in reading, writing, and in math. Although some kids may disagree and think we can learn everything on the internet, many websites or apps can’t be trusted. Books carry more information about history and much more knowledge to learn. In conclusion, I think it’s important that kids should start reading.

With social media constantly around us, it can be hard to pull children away from their alluring screens. That's why sometimes middle school kids could use a little boost in motivation.
To get children to read more, I would suggest that teachers could add extra credit to books that they either enjoy or relate to their lessons, and when students read the book they could get points added to their grade. This would be helpful because then TeWinkle students could learn more about the subjects, and also boost their grade. If reading helps their grade, then they would be motivated to read more books frequently.
For reluctant readers especially, I would suggest reading books that focus on subjects you care about or want to learn more about. Then you could go into the book with a positive mindset, and be more interested. Also, teachers can suggest lots of good books because they’ve gone through school, and been around books their entire career, so they know many interesting books.
Although many students may say reading is pointless, doesn’t benefit them, and they’re unmotivated to try, adding extra credit will give them a reason to try reading, and motivation to find time to help their grades. Also, it will give them a reason to try, even if it's not just to broaden their horizons.
