Holes
by Kaylie Pacheco
The movie Holes is an adaptation of the book by Louis Sachar. If you haven’t read it then it’s a shame, as the book has many separate stories and little comments from many different times and places that all intertwine with one another, which makes the ending being resolved in the way it was all the more satisfying.
The story follows a 13 year old boy named Stanley Yelnats who gets in trouble with the law because of a family curse. Rather than going to prison, he attends a correctional boot camp called Camp Green Lake in the remnants of a ghost town, where he makes friends and breaks the curse accidentally.
I already mentioned that many small things contribute to the end of the curse, but that’s for the viewer to find out. The actors had great performances and helped put a face to the characters. The settings were done phenomenally and make you perfectly understand the character’s environment. Therefore, on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 7.
Book of Life
by Jackie Perez
The Book of Life shows a story that takes place in a little Mexican town called San Angel and the main characters are a bull rider named Manolo and another a fighter named Joaquin fighting for the love of their best friend Maria.
Throughout this story, it shows the lovely culture of Mexico. Although Maria was sent to Spain, one thing remained thier dream to marry Maria. While the trio is fighting for husband and wife, they have made a high stakes bet on the outcome of the love triangle.
So in conclusion, this story is a great movie to watch with family and friends and even with children. It shows true events/tradition that are still used to this day. So I’d rated it an 8.5/10.
