John Evans Engineering Entrance Award ~ January 10th

Description:

  • Each year the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation selects several women to act as Ambassadors for the engineering profession and to serve as role models for other young women.

  • John Evans, P. Eng was a Director and Vice-President of the Foundation, a committed supporter of women in engineering and a judge for CEMF awards. His legacy included a donation for an award to be made to a woman entering an accredited engineering program in Canada from high school.

  • While applicants must be in good academic standing, the award is not based on academic achievement. Ambassadors are selected based on their enthusiasm for engineering, their involvement in volunteer activities, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Criteria:

  • To be considered for the John Evans Entrance Award, applicants must

    • Be a Canadian citizen or a Landed Immigrant with a Permanent Residence Card.

    • Self-identify as female.

    • Be a recent graduate or about to graduate from a Canadian high school and have applied to an accredited engineering program at a Canadian university. The selected applicant must show proof that they are enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited program before they are entitled to receive the first award allotment.

  • The application process requires the applicant to submit numerous items for consideration including: reference letters, a letter of support form a Principal or Vice Principal, an informational letter promoting engineering, an application form, proof of enrollment, list of extracurricular & community activities, voice sound clip expressing your passion for engineering, 15 minute powerpoint or prezi presentation. Canadian Women In Municipal Government Scholarship

Amount: $1000 (1 awarded in each of the 5 regions)

Description:

  • FCM's annual scholarship program for secondary school students began in 2010. It is meant to reward and inspire students who take on challenges and try to bring about change that benefits their peers and / or community.

Criteria:

  • The scholarship is open to young women / girls enrolled in secondary school (and CEGEP in Quebec) and who are contributing to their school's leadership team or student council.

  • Your submission must include the following elements.

    • In a 3 min video, tell us how you contribute to school activities related to student council or leadership.

    • Provide a written document with answers to the following questions. Each answer should be 300 words or less.

      1. How do you contribute to your school's leadership?

      2. How are you engaged in community activities?

      3. Why is it important for women to participate in politics?

  • 2 letters of reference

Ingenium-NSERC STEAM Horizon Awards ~ January 15th

Amount: $25,000 for one year (five or more awarded)

Description:

  • The objective of the Ingenium-NSERC STEAM Horizon awards is to promote the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and design,* and mathematics (STEAM) to the next generation of scientists and engineers.

  • The award will be given to individuals who clearly demonstrate inspiring achievements in these fields by applying their passion to have an impact on their community. Winners can approach their passion for technology and science from any angle, whether from an art and design perspective or as a research project, public outreach or development of a new idea or product.

  • Winners of the Ingenium-NSERC STEAM Horizon awards will show strong potential to become ambassadors for STEAM fields for younger generations.

Criteria:

  • To be eligible to apply, you must:

  • be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada by the application deadline

  • be 16 to 18 years of age by the application deadline

  • have been recognized for accomplishments in a formal capacity (e.g., selected as a participant or winner of a science fair, patent application, conference presentation) or less formal capacity (e.g., founding a coding club, developing a course for kids, creating an interactive art installation, doing volunteer work or community outreach)

  • have obtained, over the previous year of study, an academic average of 80% or higher

  • be preparing to enroll in the fall of 2021 in your first year of post-secondary education (university, college or CÉGEP) in a STEAM field at a Canadian institution

  • Applications include an application form, along with submission of a letter of support, transcripts, and a video clip.

Alberta Blue Cross Scholarship for Indigenous Students ~ January 15th

Amount: $1500 (3 awarded)

Applications Open: September 1st

Description:

  • The Alberta Blue Cross Scholarship for Indigenous Students is for students who have demonstrated community involvement and achievement of personal goals as well as shown financial need. Academic achievement will also be considered. This scholarship is for students who have recently completed their high school education and entering their first year of post-secondary study at an accredited institution.

Criteria:

  • Applicants are a member of a first nation or band, or have Inuit, Métis or Indian Status as referenced on the Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada website.

  • Applicants must be enrolling in the first year of any full-time post-secondary certificate or diploma program of two or more years duration.

  • Applicants must clearly describe their community involvement, personal goals and financial need.

  • Applicants must currently reside in Alberta and have been living here for the past 12 months.

  • Applicants must submit two reference letters for evaluation.

  • Applicants must be accepted to an accredited post-secondary institution.

Schulich Leader Scholarship- January 26th

Description:

  • Schulich Leader Scholarships are the largest and most prestigious undergraduate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) scholarships in Canada.

Criteria:

    • Achieves Academic Excellence

    • Exhibits leadership, creativity and charisma

    • Has a financial need (although not necessary, it is strongly considered)

    • Plans to pursue a career in one or more of the following focus areas: technology, engineering, entrepreneurship, and business enterprise, applied scientific research

EnergyRates.ca College Scholarship ~ January 31th

Description:

  • We look forward to seeing what the next great minds bring to this ever-transforming industry, and want to do our part in assisting those great minds achieve their goals and dreams. Whether you need to pay for your classes or textbooks, or just to put food on the table this semester, it’s yours to do with as you please. All you have to do to be considered for the scholarship is write an essay, no more than 500 words in length, telling us where you see the future of the energy industry.

Criteria:

  • Applicants:

    • must be enrolled in an American or Canadian post-secondary educational institution, or planning to enroll in such an institution within the following calendar year.

    • must submit a 500 word essay in English or French on a topic that falls within the parameters outlined on the application website.

    • must use scholarship funds for some education-related expense, such as tuition, books, school fees, room and board, etc.
