This year we facilitated our Grade Eight students in owning their learning by having each student complete a Passion Project. Our project started with a simple question, "If you could learn anything, what would it be?" Each student chose a passion of theirs that they wanted to explore further and then constructed their learning goals. Many of the projects related to careers that they might be interested in one day. Students researched a project, made something related to their passion and then showcased their learning to their peers and teachers. This group of 100 students was a very diverse group but they were motivated to complete their project as they got to choose what they learned. Students even asked to work through lunch, take it home, etc. Topics explored included robotics, video editing, video game coding, art, fashion design, baking, vlogging and more!
