"The worst learning scenario is to be unaware of expectations or how your work will be judged and to have o guideline about how to achieve the objective in the first place (Clarke, 2008, -.81). So many of our students feel like they are in this situation - that assessment happens to them, rather than it being a process they are an equal partner in. Co-constructing success criteria is "the practice of working with students to develop a shared understanding of what success looks like (Almarode & Vandas, 2018, p. 75). By having students co-construct success criteria, it allows them to think about their own learning and start a metacognitive process. Students can think through learning goals, review exemplars, and plan for the next steps in their personalized learning journey.
