Digital Portfolios can be a powerful tool for students to own the learning process and document their learning journey. Digital Portfolios show learning progress - not simply a snapshot in time. They also allow students agency to decide what to include, to go back and provide better artifacts as their learning grows and to decide how best to showcase their learning.

As you consider using digital portfolios, here are several questions you might want to consider. There are no right or wrong answers - how you use them will depend on your teaching context and the variance of your learners.

Duration - Are we developing portfolios to demonstrate learning about a topic, a course or a school year?

Updating - How often will my students be able to update their portfolio?

Digital Tools- What digital tools can my students use to develop their portfolio? Do they have a choice?

Feedback - How will I provide students ongoing and continuous feedback on their digital portfolios?

Sharing - How can my students share their portfolios with families and other interested stakeholders?

Success Criteria - How can I co-construct the success criteria of a digital portfolio with my learners? What should I make sure is included (reflections, self-assessments, opportunities to improve)?
