During the season, each team will be given a physical notebook to record the robot's design process and the team's management. During the competition, judges will receive these notebooks and will be part of the criteria for most of the awards. It is a crucial means to getting the awards and should be given a lot of attention as well.
It is recommended that you write in the notebook every time progress has been made relating to your robot and team. Some teams even have hundreds of pages in their notebooks. This is NOT A DIARY and is not meant to write just what you did on the day. It should highlight a design challenge and goal at the start, and show your progress in achieving the goal through brainstorming, building, testing, and research. This is similar to some aspects of your Design lessons.
1) Identify and analyze the season's game
2) Record the entire design process from start to the end
3) Identify a problem / issue
4) Brainstorm 3+ solutions to each issue
5) Justification of selection
6) Process of building / implementing the solution
7) Testing the solution
8) Great detail is written so that the same robot can be made just by reading the notebook
9) All team decisions, goals, and meeting notes are in the notebook
10) Notebook includes a table of contents
11) Each page is numbered, dated, and signed by the author
Not following these guidelines may cause your team to lose points during the engineering notebook judging.
