Welcome to Northwest ISD

We Are So Glad You Are Here!

Northwest ISD (NISD) is one of the fastest growing school districts in the state and attracts more than 1,400 new students each year. NISD spans 234 square miles and serves 14 communities in parts of three counties. This year NISD will open a new elementary school, Lance Thompson Elementary School in the Harvest Community. The district operates three comprehensive high schools, an accelerated high school, six middle schools, 19 elementary schools, a special programs center and a community based youth residential program.

New Teacher Training Requirements

NISD provides three days of teacher support for new teachers prior to all teachers returning for the beginning of the year. Our ENGAGE conference is also open to all new to NISD teachers as well as returning teachers. Refer to the ENGAGE website for more information. We are excited about offering premier professional development to our employees. Please see the schedule for all new to NISD teachers.

Other Required Trainings

All teachers in NISD attend a Thinking Maps training within their first year. We offer this training three times during the summer for new teachers to attend. Thinking Maps are embedded in our curriculum, so it is important for teachers to be familiar with the maps. Teachers that are new to teaching, new to Texas or have not been appraised under the T-TESS system are required to attend our T-TESS Orientation. Teachers that have already completed Thinking Maps and T-TESS trainings may receive credit by turning in your certificate to your campus principal. All of these trainings take place at the NISD Administration Building. Refer to Edugence for start and end times. Please register in Edugence (linked in title) for the session you plan on attending.

Back to School Schedule

All teachers report to their campus on August 8th. Please refer to your campus principal for a start time. The schedule for all teacher back to school professional learning is above.

Every year NISD hosts the very best Professional Learning Conference! This is not a requirement of our new teachers, but they often want to come! Click on either the picture or title to access the Engage website!

The ENGAGE Institute offers over 150 learning sessions for teachers and administrators to choose from to meet their individual learning needs. The sessions are taught by outside experts in the field of education, NISD administrators, and our teachers covering every core content area as well as electives.

The ENGAGE Summer Professional Learning Institute will be held at Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club, Texas.

NISD believes in providing premiere professional learning opportunities. The Professional Learning Framework outlines the various opportunities that support educators in all four domains of the T-TESS. This allows educators to choose sessions that best fit their professional goals.

Registering for Professional Learning

At NISD, we use a program called Edugence to schedule and track our professional learning. Here is a video that explains how to register for sessions in Edugence.
