In elementary, our gifted learners are served in two ways.  A GT specialist will pull identified students for a specified amount of time.  During GATES, students work on research, critical & creative thinking, communication and collaboration.  But gifted learners are not just gifted when they go to GATES and they need services in their classroom as well.  Gifted learners are also clustered with other gifted learners in their grade with a teacher who has the state required 30 GT Hours.  Classroom teachers are expected to differentiate based on the needs of the gifted learners in their class.  If you're coming to Northwest ISD from another district and have already taken the 30 Hours, please contact me to talk about transferring your professional development.
