Leadership & Professional Development

Below is a representation of some of the presentation, professional development, & coaching resources I have created in my current role. Please email me any questions or requests at kylielloyd4@gmail.com

Digital Citizenship Curriculum & #1toWorldPromise

I played a key role in leading our district's rebranding and rewriting of the K-12 Digital Citizenship curriculum. This long-term project launched in the 2018-2019 school year. In addition to overhauling the digital citizenship curriculum, we strategically branded and developed a system to engage stakeholders as part of the conversations already happening in classrooms. We created the #1toWorldPromise. In 2019-2020 we embedded our district's SEL framework into each Digital Citizenship lesson in order to further support student social-emotional growth and empower teachers with language to talk about student SEL as it relates to technology. We have also added Seesaw and Pear Deck engagement to every lesson.

Presenting to NISD's counselors about how our #1toWorldPromise curriculum supports students' social-emotional learning and about the "Family Connections Hub" that has resources for parents..

District ePortfolios & ePortfolio Website

In 2019, I had the privilege to lead the redesign of Northwest ISD's ePortfolio website with the goal of better reflecting our Find Your Why vision for the whole district implementation of ePortfolios at every campus. Though I managed this project, each of my teammates played a critical role in the process, which produced a self-paced tool that meets the needs of all stakeholders, including students, parents, and educators. Through this project, I gained important practice in project management, web design, site mapping, and more.

In 2020, I led a small team in developing an in-depth curriculum for teachers, which is also available on the site and embedded into course content throughout the district. Each lesson is equipped with ready-to-use with Pear Deck slide decks.

Student ePortfolio Workshop

Using the interactive tool Pear Deck, this workshop challenges students to find their individual 'why' behind building an ePortfolio. It moves students through a series of questions and guides them to consider what choices they need to make for an ePortfolio to help them reach their professional, personal goals. This workshop was successful in empowering students to create a digital portfolio with purpose and has been presented to thousands of students throughout our district.

Instructional Framework

Partnering with our executive leadership and a small team, I played a critical role in the development of NISD's Instructional Framework from ideation to fruition. This project spanned about a year and was extremely rewarding to participate in. The goal of this project was to brand our existing instructional framework in a way that teachers would be able to visually recognize and implement, while also providing common language and resources to the entire district. The work was presented to numerous committees throughout the development of the project, and all aspects went through numerous ideations and drafts before publication.

Through this project, I largely gained experience designing to other peoples' specifications and preferences, while also challenging myself to learn functional HTML5 code. (I created interactive drop-down blocks on the Instructional Framework website using W3schools.com.) I also learned about critical aspects of designing for people with visual disabilities.

Professional Development

Create With Your Kids (Drawings, Canva, Spark) - Engage 2018

Create with Your Kids

(Presented at Engage 2018, iCare 2018, & TCEA 2019)

This session introduced educators to 3 creative tools: Adobe Spark, Google Drawings, & Canva. After touching on pedagogical reasons for asking your students to create, through hands-on learning challenges attendees were asked to experience the same productive struggle their students do when learning a new tool. They were up to the task! In designing this session, Katy Barrey & I wanted to model that you do not have to be an expert in a tool to ask your students to use it.

Creating Engaging Infographics

(Presented at Engage 2018, iCare 2018, & TCEA 2019)

I was asked by our senior practicum teachers to create a resource that would help students create infographics from start to finish and function as both a student-paced or teacher-led resource. As I am passionate about design and empowering others with "tricks of the trade", I was excited to introduce some basic concepts like font choice, white space, and hex codes while still meeting the needs of the teacher. I shared this on Twitter, where I received helpful feedback and engagement.

Managing Student Technology in 1:1 Environments

Manage 1:1 Student Technology

(Presented at TCEA 2019 & Engage 2019, 2020, & 2021)

This session on classroom management in a technology rich environment, focused on moving the conversation from what can go wrong to how to engage your students in a way that empowers them to see their device as tool for learning. We focused on validating what teachers were already doing right, sharing best practices, and inspiring teachers to challenge their students with engaging tasks that redefined the role of their device in learning.

#TouchdownNHS Technology Challenge

The #TouchdownNHS Challenge was a campus-wide, gamified professional development challenge. For 5 weeks, I offered a various technology integration challenges and coordinated trainings. Teachers were shared their classroom takeaways from each challenge on Twitter using #TouchdownNHS. The challenges were centered around the 4 C's (collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking).

The goal of this challenge was to create a campus culture that encouraged growth in instructional technology.

Peardeck Training Follow-Up

Pike Peardeck Follow Up

Before using this slideshow, I presented to all of my teachers the basics of Pear Deck, explained how to use the tool & supported many of them in implementing it in the classroom. In our follow-up training, I facilitated the discussion using this resource, wanting to move the conversation towards the instructional practices behind using why we use Pear Deck.
