Onion Additives: Satire PBL

Based on notable, satirical website The Onion, this PBL asked AP Language and Composition students to compose their own satire. In teams, students chose a topic they wished to satirize, and then individually contributed a team-created body of work.

Their charge was to call attention to serious issues using humor. Students were tasked with creating a thematic website (using a platform of their choice) to showcase their collective contributions of satire on any particular topic. The expectations were that students successfully employed multiple tools of satire and entertained their audience (their peers). They were asked to provide a variety of products, including written works. (In the future, I would require each student to submit an individually written, satirical article with supporting artwork and advertisements.)

As a junior class, students then used Padlet.com to give one another feedback on both the content and presentation of information, ultimately voting on the favorite website using PollEverywhere.com.
