NIHR Expert Connect (NIHR EC App)

Overview

NIHR Expert Connect is a cloud-based Google Application Sheet, which collates information on subject matter experts in a searchable database designed to match experts to requests for support where expert input is required across the NIHR.

NIHR Expert Connect enables the NIHR to:

• Capture contact information and areas of expertise

• Enable visibility of this information to registered NIHR users

• Enables efficient matching of subject matter experts to relevant requests for support and opportunities. 

Key Policies

• Use of NIHR Expert Connect is governed by these Terms and Conditions that apply to all people who use it

  • From 15/09/2025 anyone registered for or using NIHR Expert Connect has accepted these Terms and Conditions.

• How an individual’s data is used is governed by a Privacy Notice  

  • From 25/09/2025 anyone registered with NIHR Expert Connect has indicated acceptance of their data usage. 

Data Governance

The Data Controller for NIHR Expert Connect is the Department of Health and Social Care. This system is managed by NIHR Research Delivery Network Coordinating Centre (RDNCC) on behalf of the Data Controller.

The responsible manager within NIHR RDNCC for NIHR Expert Connect is the Deputy Director of Strategic Development.

Security

RDNCC have a current ISO27001: 2022 certification and Cyber Essentials; the provision of NIHR Expert Connect falls within the scope of these. 

RDNCC review that the above controls are current and effective on at least an annual basis. This includes verification with DHSC as Data Controller.
