Year 9 & 10

Wondering where your GCSEs will get you?

Some students are very lucky and know exactly what they want to do, but for must students, they are not sure what they want to do.

Studying GCSEs is often difficult - it may be that you are taking subjects that you don't enjoy as much as others, or that you find difficult. The important thing to remember is that the better qualifications you have, you are statistically going to earn more money and have a more secure job.

If you are choosing your GCSEs, you need to think carefully about what you enjoy and what you will be good at, not what your friends are studying, or if you like the teacher. If you have a definite job in mind, you will also need to think about what qualifications they will require - for example, a doctor will need Maths, English and separate sciences, all at level 7, with no retakes. However, most jobs will ask that you 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at level 4 or above.

Subject-Poster-Apprenticeships

The Amazing Apprenticeship service has provided a series of posters showing the different apprenticeships available for 12 different GCSEs.

So if you are not sure where a GCSE could take you, it's worth having a look at these to think about some of the job routes that you could take in future.
