University of California (UCs) and California State Universities (CSUs) 

DO NOT require SAT or ACT scores. 

If you are applying to private or out-of-state schools, check their admissions requirements to determine whether you will need to take the SAT or ACT!

SAT and ACT at James Logan High School

This Fall, we are offering In-School SAT and ACT testing here at James Logan High School. ACT test will be held on October 15th and SAT test will be held on October 20th . If you are interested in testing here at Logan, please purchase a test via the Aeries online store before the deadline of October 2nd:

If you are purchasing your ticket on the Aeries WEBSITE, follow these steps:

• Go to "Online Store"

• Click "Fall SAT School Day 2026" OR "Fall ACT School Day 2026", and press "Add to Cart",

• Checkout

If you are purchasing your ticket on the Aeries APP, follow these steps:

• Click "More" on the bottom right

• Go to "Full Portal"

• Click three lines on the top left and go to "Online Store"

• Sign in again

• Click "Fall SAT School Day 2026" OR "Fall ACT School Day 2026", and press "Add to Cart",

• Checkout

Fee Waiver information:

• If your student is in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program, they can request a Fee Waiver by completing the Google Form for Fee Waiver  approval.

• *Please note - a letter from Food Services will be required as proof of participation in this program which can be turned in to Ms. Sidhu in the 300 Admin Office or uploaded onto the Google Form.

You will need to make sure you have completed the AERIES Data Confirmation in order to request a Free and Reduced Lunch Letter. Here is some information on what you will need to do:

If you have not logged into the Aeries Parent Portal before, be sure you:

• • • Use the email address you gave the school. 

    • The portal has several languages to choose from. Click the drop down in the top right corner to select your preferred language.

    • To login to the portal for the first time, click “Forgot Password.” You will then receive an email with instructions on how to reset your password. 

    • Login using the email address on file with IVC and your password, and complete the parent data confirmation.

Registration Process

• If you have purchased a seat for either test, the school will register the student on CollegeBoard.

• In school tests are only available to New Haven Unified School District students.

• Families do not need to create an external College Board or ACT account for these school-day tests

• If your student requires accommodations based on the 504 Plan or IEP, please make sure to register early as it takes up to 7 weeks to get the accommodations approved in the system.

What are the SAT and ACT?

The SAT and ACT are exams used by colleges and universities as one part of their admissions process. Both tests measure skills students learn in school, such as reading, writing, and math. Some colleges also use scores to help determine placement in courses or eligibility for scholarships.

Colleges generally accept either test equally, and students are encouraged to take the exam they feel most comfortable with.

Are these tests required?

Many colleges are currently test-optional, meaning students may choose whether or not to submit scores. However, taking the SAT or ACT can still be beneficial for college admissions, scholarships, and personal academic goals.

What is the cost of the test?

• Both the SAT and ACT test costs $70 and can be purchased per the instructions above.

When do students usually take these exams?

Students typically take the SAT or ACT in 11th or 12th grade, though some choose to test earlier for practice. Tests are offered on select school days and weekends.

The SAT and ACT tests attempt to measure college readiness and predict future academic success, and they do so in very different ways:

• The ACT test measures what a student already knows. It covers material that the student should have learned during high school.

• The SAT test is used more as a predictor of what a student is capable of learning. It deals with material that the student may NOT have learned in high school.
