Unit 3--goal work, nutrition, foot eye coordination, and holiday games
Halloween themed activities. Save the Ghost, Pumpkin Memory, Bowling, Dodgeball, Kickball, Wiffleball
Week 1---Review our locomotor skills from the 1st 9 weeks. Jogging test practice---jogging to the yellow!
Octapus tag---changing directions, running safe, good sportmanship, endurance, having fun
Lead Ups for games---Pumpkin Memory---working on strategy, paying attention to detail, teamwork--in 1st and 2nd grade we try to make this into a team relay, bowling practice--trying to knock over 1 pin while using 1 hand to roll the ball from spot to pin
Games... Save the Ghost---to work on underhand rolling the ball, guarding, aiming for an object, good sportsmanship, strategy, etc. "Dodgeball"---practicing overhand throw, aim for a target, and dodging, catching and throwing.
Week 2---Stations---to incorporate hand/eye coordination in multiple ways with many different activities. We do 8 stations and rotate every 2-3 minutes. This helps teach the kiddos how to rotate, stay on task, adjust to new tasks, and works the entire body. 1. Bowling---3 bowling lanes are set up for the kiddos to learn the proper way to hold a ball, roll the ball, and set up the pins. In Kindergarten we only use 3 pins but with 1st and 2nd grade--we use all 10 pins. 2. Ring Toss---working on underhand tossing, control, and hitting a target...moving the line farther back with each grade level. 3. Scoops---working on toss and catch (words we learned in the 1st 9 weeks), control, teamwork, and challenge. 4. Paddle ball---working on balance, control, setting goals, challenge, and a little bit of competition. 5. Cup stackers---working on mental gaming, speed, competition, and control. 6. hula hoop and jump ropes---working on core strength, endurance, coordination, and cardio. 7. Basketball---working on the basics of dribbling and shooting the ball, building those muscles to shoot the ball correctly. 8. Scooters---working on coordination, speed, balance, and safety. All of these are meant to be fun, active, and a learning experience!
Weeks 3,4, and 5---swimming unit. Focusing on water safety, learning how to float, basic strokes, etc.
Wednesdays during the 2nd 9 weeks is covering the basics of playing kickball---kick the ball, run the bases, offense/defense, and understanding the flow of the game.
Week 6--Nutrition games--What's on my Plate, MyPlate, Frozen Food Tag, Food group hustle, Thanksgiving Extravaganza, Balanced Meal, Turkey Trot, Give Thanks, Turkey Hunting, Turkey Bowl, stations (games are varied by year, by class, by level---depending on time, cooperation, and readiness)
Unit 4---Physical Activity with Holiday Spirit---Self Expression---Goal Work
Week 7--3rd Jogging Test---next level is Pink---endurance, challenge, and reaching goals
Week 8--Jogging test make ups---Grinch Tag---Snowball Fight---Ice Skating
Week 9---Stations---holiday games---class awards for tennis shoe point winners and squad point winners
