In Unit 6, we will be focusing on quadratic equations and their properties, including graphing, factoring, and applying the quadratic formula. It's important to demonstrate your understanding of these concepts in order to build a strong foundation for future math courses. We will spend a lot of time comparing quadratic functions to both linear and exponential functions to see what similarities they have in common and what makes them different.
Lesson 1
Lesson 1 is all introducing quadratic functions for the first time and comparing them to linear and exponential functions. Here are some videos below.
Lesson 2
Now that we know what quadratic equations are and how to identify them, we are going to practice writing their explicit and recursive equations.
Lesson 3
This lesson relates quadratics to linear functions. Did you know that quadratic functions are what you get if you add up all the terms of linear functions? Now you do. I couldn't find any videos for this lesson, but it's a cool idea that you should know.
Lesson 4
Lesson 4 shows us some cool aspects of quadratic functions. It can be used to model the area of a pen. If you're trying to find the biggest inside a fence with limited material, use a quadratic.
Lesson 5
What moves faster, a tortoise or a hare? What grows faster, exponential functions or quadratic? Well actually it's exponential. Here are some videos to show this.
Lesson 6
Lesson 6 is a cumulative lesson so you are practicing what you have already learned. I'm attaching some videos for you to refresh how to distinguish between the three types of functions.
