In Unit 3, we will explore the various features that make functions unique and fascinating. We will discuss maximums, minimums, x-intercepts, y-intercepts, domain, range, intervals of increasing, intervals of decreasing, and constant intervals. You will learn how to identify and analyze these features, helping you unravel the hidden secrets within mathematical functions.
Lesson 1
This first lesson is all about telling a story, which is exactly what graphs do. So, we are going to be given a story and have to make a graph that will match it. At the end of this lesson you will be introduced to a lot of new vocab words that we will cover in lesson 2.
Lesson 2
Lesson 2 is about identifying Key Features of Functions. We are going to identify when the function is increasing/decreasing/constant, where our maximums and minimums are, and the domain and range of a function. Mastery of this lesson is required to be successful on the Unit 3 Assessment, so I have attached extra videos for you.
Lesson 3
This lesson is all about practicing identifying key features of functions. We spent Lesson 2 learning about these features, now we are going to identify them some more. You will need to be able to do this on your test. I have also placed some practice problems here for you as well.
Lesson 4
There are two topics discussed in Lesson 4. Writing the equations of a graph shown, and Adding functions together. We've practiced writing the equations of graphs before so this shouldn't be new to us. For help with that, please refer to units 1 and 2. Adding functions together is sorta new, but it is just combining like terms which we have practiced before.
Lesson 5
Lesson 5 is all about what we call Function Notation. We have seen Function Notation before. It helps us find Inputs and Outputs. Here area few videos for you to watch about how to use it in different scenarios.
Extra Practice
We have done a ton of problems in class for this unit, but in case it wasn't enough, here are some Khan Academy links to things that will be helpful. There are videos, practice quizzes, and worked examples here to help your prepare for your unit assessment.
