We explored Service Learning to consider what makes authentic service which recognises our own passions and skills to help others. We are grateful for the sessions run by Singapore based charities Healthserve and Project Smile and the environmental focused organisation Singrass as well as Ms Vicki Risianova who shared how her own passions have lead her to support communities. These talks allowed learners to find out how small actions can make a huge difference to communities and the people around us.
Now in groups, and inspired by all that they have learnt, the Year 9 learners are beginning to research and find out what authentic needs they can identify before considering how they can work together to offer solutions.

We are very excited to have a growing recycling area on site. This week saw the delivery of our Reverse Vending Machine which will ignite our house initiative to see how many bottles learners in each house will recycle over the next 4 months. Look out for more information on how to get started with recycling next week!
We also have the Textiles recycling bin and the drop off point for electricals, so don't forget to bring any of these items into school to support becoming a more sustainable community.
You will find the Recycling Center underneath the main stairs on Level 1, next to the astro playing field.

Our Year 11 English as a Second Language learners had the fantastic opportunity to learn how to prepare a pasta dish from our chefs at Victus.
Taking fresh basil leaves from our herb garden, our learners were tasked with preparing the ingredients using restaurant grade hygiene levels before constructing their dish under the watchful eye of Chef Heng and the team. With the pasta simmering and the basil blended, our learners really got stuck in, mixing their pesto paste into the pasta with their (gloved) bare hands, resulting finally, in a tasty dish. All our learners really enjoyed working with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and we hope the session has kickstarted the culinary journey for many of them!
A big thank you to Chef Heng and the team at Victus for allowing us into your kitchen.
Following Chinese New Year, the secondary English department have had a push on reading. We are using the wonderful website Readtheory to challenge our learners to complete quizzes.
Each week a winner from each year level has been celebrated in our secondary English corridor. At the end of term the learner with the most quizzes completed will receive a special prize!
