Learning conferences happen twice a year and are an opportunity for your child to share how they have settled into the 2022/23 Academic Year and highlight their achievements and areas to focus on in their learning journey.
The conferences will be arranged as follows:
Thursday, 6th October
Face to face appointments on campus in learning areas.
16:00 - 20:00
Friday, 7th October
Face to face appointments on campus in learning areas.
08:00 - 10:00
Online appointments via Google Meets
10:00 - 16:00
You can now log on to the Parent Portal to book appointments with your child’s subject teachers for the time you would like to attend. For Secondary Learners with multiple subject teachers it is not essential to see every subject teacher this time. There will be a second Learning Conference during March 9th and 10th.
Bookings will close at noon on Tuesday 4th October. Please remember school will be closed for lessons on Friday 7th to enable staff to meet families.
To help this event run smoothly and benefit your child, we ask you to please:
Keep strictly to your appointment time
Leave a space between each face to face appointment to allow you to move around the campus
Join the meetings with your child and engage them in the discussion
Join the Google Meets with your personal email and not your child’s (this helps us avoid having families join another learners meeting)
Help your child identify clear goals for each of the subjects discussed
Google Meet links will be sent by email nearer the time.
From the start of term two, we will be moving to a cashless system in the Cafeteria. The use of cash slows down the service time, is more easily misplaced and is less hygienic than contactless payments. We hope that moving to this new system will make lunchtimes a more efficient experience for all. The Cafeteria accepts both EZLink and NETS payment (Visa and Mastercard payment can also be made for a 0.50sgd surcharge)
To support this transition, all learners have recently been given a new school ID card. One feature of this new card is that it allows for EZLink payment. The advantage of the ID Card Ezlink is that there is no service charge, and if misplaced, it is more likely to be quickly returned to the owner. Also, parents and guardians can add funds or set up a recurring payment through the EZLink app (more details here).
Should learners not have the means to pay for lunch, they can still request a credit from the cafeteria staff for a set meal.
As a school, we pride ourselves on our strong community relationships. Every year group in Secondary has a parent's WhatsApp Group. We hope that these groups help you build friendships with other families.
Please be aware of the following guidelines:
What these WhatsApp groups are:
A place for families to come together to arrange social activities (e.g. parties, play dates, coffee mornings and evening drinks)
A place for occasional reminders (e.g. remembering Dress Up Days!)
What these WhatsApp groups aren't:
A place for discussing individual learners
A place to raise issues (we welcome all feedback and encourage you to contact the school directly with any concerns you have so that we can help to resolve them)
A school communication channel (we will continue to share all school information via the fortnightly Newsletters, school emails and our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/NexusSchoolSG/) - please do make sure you read these to find out all that is going on in school
We are delighted that a large group of parents have agreed to help to administer and manage these WhatsApp Groups. Please remember that these are volunteers who are helping to keep these groups safe and positive - from time to time, they will remind groups of the above guidelines. Please treat them with respect.
Carefully consider what is posted and shared in these groups, ensuring that all communication follows the guidelines above. Please be aware that posts on social media, including WhatsApp messages, can be used as evidence of defamation under both criminal and civil law in Singapore.
Thank you to all of you who have shared your concerns around our uniform. We would like to consult with the community to help us going forward. Please share your views with us here.
Any changes going forward will be implemented slowly to allow both Nexus families and the supplier to make use of existing uniform and prevent waste.
Please note that the IGCSE examination boards do not confirm the timetable until Term 3. It is worth noting these have run from April to the end of June and you may want to delay booking any flights until the schedule is confirmed. Nexus has no control over these dates and they can run on public holidays and into the summer holidays. We will share the schedule as soon as it is available.
Nexus holds trial examinations for Year 11 learners from 9th January to 20th January and for Year 10 learners from 10th April to 20th April. These are deliberately placed to allow maximum teaching to have occurred before the assessments to ensure realistic experiences for learners and authentic feedback on their performance. These dates also ensure that there is sufficient time for learners to work with their teachers to maximise their chances of success.
The IB have published a provisional schedule for the May 2023 examinations which run between April 27th and May 19th. Please note Nexus has no control over these dates and they can run on public holidays.
Wednesday November 9th -IBDP options evening for Year 11 learners and families
Thursday November 24th - IGCSE options evening for Year 9 learners and families
CCAs will run until 18 November 2022
ACSIS Sport training for Season 1 will runs until Friday, 11 November 2022
